NICCRRA is establishing a laboratory for briquette standardization

Wood to Gas Programme using Briquettes as Transitional Energy

Overview

Transitioning from wood to gas using standardized briquettes made from agricultural residue & water hyacinth is a solution to the deforestation problem in Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.

NICCRRA is designing a clean cooking stove component that will use
both BRIQUETTES and GAS

Goal

  • Reducing deforestation and environmental degradation
  • Standardizing briquette production for safety and efficiency
  • Boosting climate entrepreneurship at the grassroots level

Benefits

  • Transitioning to briquettes will reduce the reliance on wood for energy.
  • Using briquettes will encourage the transition to a cleaner energy source.

Making sure all homes across Nigeria source at least 40% of their power from solar energy.

Solar My Neighbour Programme

Overview

78% of all CO2 emissions come from urban centres. The heavy reliance on diesel and petrol generators in urban centres leads to increased carbon emissions that contribute greatly to widespread environmental degradation and pollution.

Goal

This Programme targets the implementation of a policy mandating that all homes in urban centres across Nigeria – starting with the Federal Capital Territory – source at least 40% of their power from solar energy. Solar energy systems will reduce the timeframe when people in urban centres switch on their generators, therefore reducing the amount of emissions released into the environment.

Benefits

  • Reduced Spending on Energy

  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions

  • Improved Health and Security
